Diary - the End of Exam Picnic

After exams are over at the end of the third and final term, tradition has it that students and teachers alike head out of the inner sanctum of the camp to frolick in its wilder, watery edges for a couple of big celebratory picnic knees-ups. This year was no exception, and it was one of the best days I've experienced in the camp so far. Hopefully the pictures here (mostly snapped by students themselves) can tell the story of what went on: music, dancing, singing, games, competitions, feasting on curries so good they can only tingle a taste bud once a year, eating al-fresco from banana leaves and generally having a most memorable top-notch time. Absolutely brilliant, a magical day.

The lads: surely a competitor for best line-up photo ever taken.

The ladies wot paddle: a slight difference in photographic posing style selection - free will or culturally determined?

Chomp chomp chomp. The banana tree is beginning to rival Bamboo for its versatility.

A brilliant game...

Story-telling of a magical and most conjourous variety.

Time for some baboonery - but just whose impression is best?

Me reckons the headteacher wins by a pink fleshy bum.

saw chrit and a lady friend.JPG
Saw Chrit nabbing one of the girls. He has a reputation for this - or at least we like to make out he does for a bit of a giggle. And giggles it does generate, considering the secrecy given to matters of love in Burmese society.

The scrapings of the bottom of the rice pot brings a baked rice delight, reward for half and hours beady stewardship of the essential staple.
