Partners in the UK and Burma

prospect burma logo sm.JPGWe're in a unique position to have developed direct links with partners in the UK and on the Burma border. Prospect Burma, our charitable partners here (UK registered charity number 802615), provide scholarships for Burmese refugees in South Asian universities and work on a number of educational projects along the border. They fund themselves largely by administering Aung San Suu Kyi's winnings from her 1991 Nobel Peace Prize, and she continues to lend her personal support to the charity. Direct links to Refugee-led Projects

As for groups on the border, during my year on the border I came to know some fantastic people. Despite their situation - cogs in a volatile, insecure and humbling part of the world - they were doing fantastic things. Their work was about giving something back to their own communities and learning their way out of stagnant border lives, and I wanted to support them after I'd left. Every penny you donate for Nightstrider will go straight to three projects - run by refugees themselves. Please follow these links to find out a bit more:

Schools for Refugees on the border and inside Burma / Teacher Training for Refugee Teachers / Student Internships

Students at Yaung Ni Oo High School, Mae La Oon refugee camp, celebrate the end of the school year (in the middle of a river!). It's 45 degrees, they're kitted out in their best (donated) clothes, and their about to eat a meal including eggs and meat - they get that once a year.

Please spare 5 minutes to visit our sponsorship site and make a donation - it will make a massive difference to these projects and the many people benefiting from them.
